Down-Home Fried Chicken
Ingredients
10 Person(s)
Directions
-
1. Prepare the Chicken Fry Coating
Pour the Louisiana Chicken Fry batter into a large container or bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of chicken bouillon and mix thoroughly. Set aside.
-
2. Prepare the Chicken
Inspect the drumsticks and remove any stray feathers if needed. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels.
-
3. Make the Marinade
In a large bowl, whisk together the milk and eggs until combined. Add the onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, Italian seasoning, thyme, paprika, chicken bouillon, and hot sauce. Mix everything together really well.
-
4. Marinate the Chicken
Add the chicken drumsticks to the marinade, making sure each piece is completely coated. Cover and place in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes. If you have the time, you can let the chicken marinate longer for even more flavor.
-
5. Heat the Oil
Heat enough oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep skillet for frying. Aim for approximately 350°F before adding the chicken.
-
6. Coat the Chicken
Remove each drumstick from the marinade and allow any excess to drip off. Place the chicken into the seasoned Louisiana Chicken Fry mixture and toss until each piece is completely coated. Shake off any excess coating.
-
7. Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the coated chicken into the hot oil, working in batches so you don't overcrowd the pan. Fry for approximately 15–20 minutes, turning the chicken as needed, until the outside is golden brown and crispy. The most reliable way to check that the chicken is done is with a meat thermometer. The thickest part of each drumstick should reach 165°F internally.
-
8. Drain & Serve
Remove the fried chicken from the oil and place it on a wire rack or paper-towel-lined plate to drain. Let it rest for a few minutes, then serve it up while it's hot and crispy!
