Some people support your dreams from a distance, and then there are the people who roll up their sleeves, stand beside you, and help you bring those dreams to life. For me, my sister was one of those people.
As we celebrate her birthday on October 27th, I wanted to take a moment to show her some love and appreciation. Not just for the sister she is to me, but for the memories we’ve created together, the experiences we’ve shared, and the role she played in one of my entrepreneurial journeys.
Sometimes, when we look back on life, it’s the little moments that mean the most. And for me, some of those moments happened right in the kitchen.
Before Chardonnay’s Cozy Kitchen, There Was Baked2Confections
Before Chardonnay’s Cozy Kitchen, there was Baked2Confections, my previous venture where I sold baked goods at work. It was a chapter of my life when I was building something of my own, sharing my love for baking, and learning what it meant to turn something I enjoyed into a business.
But here’s the thing about running a baking business: there’s so much more to it than just making something delicious and putting it in the oven!
There’s measuring ingredients, mixing batters, keeping track of baking times, making sure everything comes out right, putting orders together, packaging those goodies, and getting everything ready for customers. And when those orders start piling up, you quickly realize that having an extra set of hands can make all the difference.
Thankfully, I had my sister.
She was there helping me make batters, prepare baked goods, put orders together, and pack everything up. She helped me with the behind-the-scenes work that went into making Baked2Confections run, and I will always appreciate the time and effort she put into helping me.
And yes, I have to give credit where credit is due: my sister was my VERY FIRST EMPLOYEE! 😂❤️
How special is that?
She wasn’t just my sister cheering me on. She was right there in the middle of it all, helping me bring my vision to life. We got to work together, spend time together, and create memories that I can look back on now with a smile.
And speaking of memories, there’s one particular night I’ll never forget.
The Night We Turned Baking Into a Sleepover 😂❤️
Y’all, let me tell you about the time I had SO many orders that my sister had to come over and spend the night just to help me get everything done!
When I say we had work to do, WE HAD WORK TO DO! 😂
We were making batters, keeping everything moving, setting timers so we knew when things needed to come out of the oven, and making sure all those orders were prepared and ready to go.
There was a LOT happening at once.
If you’ve ever had a deadline hanging over your head while you’re trying to get multiple things done in the kitchen, you already know how quickly things can get hectic. Now imagine trying to manage all those baking orders while keeping track of everything that needed to be mixed, baked, and packed.
It was stressful, y’all! But it was the kind of stressful that you can look back on and laugh about because, somehow, you were having fun in the middle of all the chaos.
We were working hard, making sure nothing was forgotten, and trying to stay on top of everything. But at the same time, we got to spend time together, hang out, and turn what could have been a long, exhausting night into our own little baking sleepover.
And honestly? I loved it.
Looking back, it’s funny how something that started as me trying to fulfill a bunch of baking orders turned into a memory that means so much more to me now. Yes, we had a business to run and orders to finish, but we also had each other. We got to work together, spend the night, and share an experience that I’ll always remember.
That night reminded me how much it meant to have someone in my corner who was willing to show up when I needed help. She wasn’t just helping me mix ingredients or keep track of oven timers. She was helping me make something happen that I had worked hard to build.
And the best part?
WE GOT IT DONE! 🙌🏾
We made it through the orders, got everything prepared, and managed to enjoy ourselves along the way. That is one of the things I appreciate most about that chapter of my life. Even when things got hectic, we found a way to push through together.
So, sis, if you’re reading this, just know that I’ll always appreciate you for that. You helped make Baked2Confections special, and you gave me memories that go far beyond the baked goods we sold.
You were my first employee, but you were also my sister, my teammate, and my built-in baking partner. And I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything. ❤️
More Than My First Employee
What made those moments special wasn’t just having someone to help me get the work done. It was having my sister beside me.
There’s something different about building something with family. You get to share the highs, work through the challenges, and look back on those experiences knowing you were part of something together.
I loved working with her, and I hope she knows how much I appreciated every time she showed up to help. Whether we were making batters, preparing orders, packing baked goods, or staying up late to get everything finished, she contributed to something that mattered to me.
Those memories will always have a special place in my heart.
And even though Baked2Confections was a chapter of my journey that has since passed, the memories and the love behind it haven’t gone anywhere. In many ways, those experiences are part of the story that brought me to where I am today.
Now, as I continue building Chardonnay’s Cozy Kitchen, I can look back and appreciate the people who were there during those earlier chapters. My journey has evolved, but the value of family, support, and creating meaningful memories has never changed.
Sometimes, the sweetest part of building something isn’t just what you accomplish. It’s who gets to be part of the journey with you.
Celebrating the Woman You Are ❤️
But today isn’t just about business memories. It’s about YOU!
On your birthday, I want you to know how much I love you, how much I care about you, and how much I appreciate the person you are.
Life hasn’t always been easy. We’ve faced obstacles, experienced difficult seasons, and had moments when simply continuing forward took more strength than people could see.
But here you are.
You’re still here. You’re still pushing through. And you’re still making your way forward despite the things life has placed in front of you.
I hope you take a moment to give yourself credit for that.
Sometimes, we get so caught up in everything we’re trying to overcome that we forget to celebrate the fact that we’ve made it through so much already. We forget to recognize our own strength. We forget that every new birthday is another opportunity to embrace life, create beautiful memories, and look forward to what is still to come.
And I want you to know that I see you.
I see the strength it takes to keep going. I see the importance of continuing to show up for yourself, even when life doesn’t turn out the way you expected. And I hope you never forget that the difficult moments you’ve experienced do not define your entire story.
There is still so much life ahead of you. There are still beautiful memories to make, new experiences to enjoy, goals to reach, and reasons to smile.
You deserve those beautiful moments just as much as anyone else.
So today, I hope you celebrate yourself. I hope you recognize your strength, give yourself grace for the things you’ve had to overcome, and remember that there are still so many wonderful possibilities ahead of you.
My Birthday Prayer for You 🙏🏾❤️
As you celebrate another year of life, I pray that God continues to cover you, strengthen you, and guide your steps.
I pray that He blesses you with many, many more birthdays filled with love, happiness, peace, good health, laughter, and beautiful experiences.
I pray that the years ahead bring you more reasons to smile, more opportunities to grow, more dreams to pursue, and more moments that remind you just how special you are.
And when life gets difficult again, as it sometimes does for all of us, I pray that you always find the strength to keep going. I pray that you have people around you who genuinely love you, support you, and remind you that you don’t have to carry everything alone.
Most of all, I pray that you get to experience the beauty of life beyond the obstacles you’ve already faced.
You’ve made it through so much, and I hope this next chapter brings you more peace, more joy, and more reasons to celebrate than you can imagine.
You deserve to enjoy your life, make wonderful memories, and look forward to your future with hope.
And I hope that when your next birthday comes around, you’ll be able to look back on the year before it and see just how many beautiful things have happened along the way.
Here’s to More Memories Together 🥂
One thing I know for sure is that our story doesn’t end with Baked2Confections.
I look forward to the possibility of working together again in the future, creating new memories, sharing new ideas, and seeing what else we can build together.
Who knows what the next chapter might look like? Maybe one day we’ll find ourselves working side by side again, taking on a new project, figuring things out as we go, and laughing through the process just like we did back then.
I would love that.
Until then, I’ll always cherish the memories we already have, especially those days of preparing orders, making batters, packing baked goods, and that one night when we had so much to do that we turned it into a whole sleepover!
Those moments remind me that some of the best memories aren’t always planned. Sometimes, they happen in the middle of a busy night, when you’re tired, there’s a lot to do, and you’re simply grateful to have someone beside you.
Thank you for being part of that journey. Thank you for showing up when I needed help. Thank you for sharing those experiences with me. And thank you for being my sister.
Happy Birthday to my first employee, my baking partner, my sister, and someone I’ll always be grateful to have in my life. ❤️
I love you more than words can say. I pray that this is just one of many, many more birthdays we’ll get to celebrate together, and I look forward to all the beautiful memories we have yet to make.
Here’s to you, to your life, to your strength, and to everything wonderful that is still ahead of you.
Happy Birthday, sis! I love you! ❤️🎂
With all my love,
Chardonnay
Good Food. Warm Hearts. Sweet Moments.
Because sometimes, the sweetest memories aren’t just about what we make in the kitchen. They’re about the people who were right there beside us while we made them.
